Video: Denmark leads the world on the road to sustainability

How Twitter contributes to a greener world

It's about two month's ago that I have started to use Twitter. A couple of friends of mine where already using it and therefore I became interested in how to use Twitter to come in contact with other people that are spreading the "green word''. I have to admit that it works very fast and it is very addicting!

If you have ever used Twitter you have certainly experienced how easy it works. You just make a free profile and start posting interesting messages. These can be personal or with information that you would like to share. Most times I am posting messages on articles that contain interesting ecological, renewable and environmental friendly news. These articles can both be from the Green Interest weblog or other websites.

After searching for other Twitter users that are interested in spreading the 'Green Word' I noticed that there are already a great amount of people worldwide that are using Twitter as a source of sharing interesting green information. So I also became a follower by reading messages from others. When you become a follower you just add an other Twitter user to your personal following list. And you can also be followed the opposite way. Every time you post a message you follower is able to read this in his or her list of messages. And when you think that a message from another user must be posted again you just ‘retweet’ (repost) it.

Twitter can be a real contribution for sharing interesting ‘green’ information. I have been connected to interesting websites a lot of times after reading an interesting message with an URL link. It brings people together on the Internet and I think that this is very important for building a more sustainable en ecological world. It helps you find interested ‘green’ information on the Internet more fastly. I have for example also posted information on ‘green’ companies and organisation hoping that other people get interested in their area of work.

And this is just a small example of what we can do using Twitter for spreading the ‘green word’

At this moment:

- I have posted 60 messages
- My amount of followers is 192
- and I am following 291 other ‘green’ Twitter users.

These are some of the Twitter users that I follow or are following The Green Interest.
