The Copenhagen Climate Conference

The Kyoto Protocol is still in our minds and now we are facing further steps.

At least that is what we hope for..

At the seventh of December 2009 many important business leaders will attend the Climate Conference in Copenhagen. Between Kyoto and Copenhagen there have been other climate gatherings in Berlin, Bali and Poznan. The Copenhagen Conference will be the last one that will replace the Kyoto Protocol. The new agreements that will be made during the Conference commence in 2012, however it contains specific plans for 2010.

The new Protocol must assure that the ‘greenhouse gasses’ will be reduced to a 450 ppm CO-2 equivalents to keep a 50% change of a worldwide temperature increase of 2 degrees (C). The Conference is also aimed on finding better ways in international co-operation to tackle the climate problems.

Other specific subjects:

All industrialized countries must accept a 40% emissions reduction between 1990 and 2020.Development countries should lower their increase of ‘greenhouse’ gasses with 30% between 1990 and 2020.

Until 2020 all deforestation must be decreased by 50%. It must be stopped completely between 2020 and 2030. Therefore the international representatives must agree on developing a special financial mechanism during the Copenhagen Conference.

Countries have to agree on an international and improved share of new and innovative technologies.

The international community must agree on spending 50 billion Dollar (corrected inflation) on adaption projects to prevent further damage from climate change.

Let’s wait for the results..

More information on the Copenhagen Climate Conference will be posted very soon!
