How Twitter contributes to a greener world

It's about two month's ago that I have started to use Twitter. A couple of friends of mine where already using it and therefore I became interested in how to use Twitter to come in contact with other people that are spreading the "green word''. I have to admit that it works very fast and it is very addicting!

If you have ever used Twitter you have certainly experienced how easy it works. You just make a free profile and start posting interesting messages. These can be personal or with information that you would like to share. Most times I am posting messages on articles that contain interesting ecological, renewable and environmental friendly news. These articles can both be from the Green Interest weblog or other websites.

After searching for other Twitter users that are interested in spreading the 'Green Word' I noticed that there are already a great amount of people worldwide that are using Twitter as a source of sharing interesting green information. So I also became a follower by reading messages from others. When you become a follower you just add an other Twitter user to your personal following list. And you can also be followed the opposite way. Every time you post a message you follower is able to read this in his or her list of messages. And when you think that a message from another user must be posted again you just ‘retweet’ (repost) it.

Twitter can be a real contribution for sharing interesting ‘green’ information. I have been connected to interesting websites a lot of times after reading an interesting message with an URL link. It brings people together on the Internet and I think that this is very important for building a more sustainable en ecological world. It helps you find interested ‘green’ information on the Internet more fastly. I have for example also posted information on ‘green’ companies and organisation hoping that other people get interested in their area of work.

And this is just a small example of what we can do using Twitter for spreading the ‘green word’

At this moment:

- I have posted 60 messages
- My amount of followers is 192
- and I am following 291 other ‘green’ Twitter users.

These are some of the Twitter users that I follow or are following The Green Interest.

A Green Question

Dear reader!
I am very curious for your answer on the next question?

Will the Electric Car become a breaktrough in ''greener" or more sustainable transport?

My personal opinion:

I think it will!

More and more car developers are changing into building electric cars.
Electric network companies are worldwide investigating the possibillities of installing charging points.
The amount of renewable energy is increasing. This can be used for recharging electric cars.

However:

When can we all buy an electric car?
Will the standard driving range of an electric car increase in more miles/ kilometres?
When will the infrastructure be finished?
What are we going to do with old electric vehicle batteries?

My personal interest and believe of the electric car is great!
What about yours? If you like to share your opinion then please leave a comment beneath this text.

Thanks!

Green Company: Solar Energy by Evergreen Solar

Evergreen Solar is an American based company and is specialised in the development of String Ribbon solar power products. The company is founded in 1994 and is listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.

Their photovoltaic solar panels are produced with a very sophisticated and patented production method. Evergreen Solar is using its proprietary, low-cost wafer technology. This technology makes it possible to use less polysilicon than standard production methods.

Evergreen Solar produces solar panels that can be installed on residential and commercial applications.

A short explanation on the String Ribbon technology by Richard Feldt, CEO of Evergreen Solar.

Do you still have to buy a Christmas or business gift?

Then go green and consider a HyMini!

This really cool eco-gadget can be used to refill your mobile phone or other gadgets with power. The only thing you need is wind! The mini windmill can be clicked on your bicycle. So whenyou drive fast enough the internal battery of the HyMini will be reloaded. Than afterwards you can use the HyMini as a portable charger. It can even be bought together with an extra photovoltaic solar panel for extra power.

The Copenhagen Climate Conference

The Kyoto Protocol is still in our minds and now we are facing further steps.

At least that is what we hope for..

At the seventh of December 2009 many important business leaders will attend the Climate Conference in Copenhagen. Between Kyoto and Copenhagen there have been other climate gatherings in Berlin, Bali and Poznan. The Copenhagen Conference will be the last one that will replace the Kyoto Protocol. The new agreements that will be made during the Conference commence in 2012, however it contains specific plans for 2010.

The new Protocol must assure that the ‘greenhouse gasses’ will be reduced to a 450 ppm CO-2 equivalents to keep a 50% change of a worldwide temperature increase of 2 degrees (C). The Conference is also aimed on finding better ways in international co-operation to tackle the climate problems.

Other specific subjects:

All industrialized countries must accept a 40% emissions reduction between 1990 and 2020.Development countries should lower their increase of ‘greenhouse’ gasses with 30% between 1990 and 2020.

Until 2020 all deforestation must be decreased by 50%. It must be stopped completely between 2020 and 2030. Therefore the international representatives must agree on developing a special financial mechanism during the Copenhagen Conference.

Countries have to agree on an international and improved share of new and innovative technologies.

The international community must agree on spending 50 billion Dollar (corrected inflation) on adaption projects to prevent further damage from climate change.

Let’s wait for the results..

More information on the Copenhagen Climate Conference will be posted very soon!
